There are many here among us who would merely scoff at the invocation of Joe Elliot, circa 1981, or assume implicit some ironic joke in his appearance in a sketchbook of mine. This is not the case, however. For those few who have been initiated into the higher levels of awareness, it is recognized the all-to-brief moment in time when Def Leppard could claim rule over the earth, a claim that was as real and as true as anything can be. Actually, the guitar solo/Rock Bottom/drum solo note at the top of the page was merely a reminder for a song structure for a new cut on the the upcoming Smacks! album. And Joe Elliot, circa '81, just seemed fit to accompany this intent of memory.

High, Dry & Rock Bottom

For those few who have been initiated into the higher levels of awareness, it is recognized the all-to-brief moment in time when Def Leppard could claim rule over the earth, a claim that was as real and as true as anything can be. I remember when MH was playing Def Leppard at his house many years and you were bagging on him pretty bad for liking blatantly commercial metal.
